Homeless Center Ministry
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.." - Matthew 25:35
Every 3rd Monday of the month, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, the community of St. George, under the sponsorship of the Philoptochos, volunteers to serve dinner at the Bakersfield Homeless Center located down the street from our church at 1600 East Truxtun.
This is a coordinated community effort and we ask you to sign up with Elaine Dorlis so we know that enough volunteers will be there.
We need 6 to 8 volunteers each month.
If you choose to participate, you responsibilities include being on time, having a helpful attitude, putting food on trays, and handing them out to individuals with Christian love.
If you would like to be a part of this ministry, we ask the following:
You must sign up to participate - drop ins cannot be accomodated by the center. To sign up, please talk to Elaine Dorlis or contact her by email.
In order to serve, you will need to sign a liability form from the Homeless Center. Elaine has these and 1 per family is all that is needed.
Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older.
You must wear closed-toed shoes (tennis shoes are great). If you have long hair, pull it back, and wear comfortable clothes.
We ask that you arrive between 3:45 and 4:00 PM if possible. The first service is at 4:00 for single men, followed by a 4:30 service for single women, a 30 minute break, and a family service starting at 5:30.
